Paper and Plastic Bags Effect on Global Warming

Reusable grocery bags and reusable shopping bags are now becoming very popular in society today. Though most of us don’t realize it, manufacturing bags-plastic, compostable plastic and even paper bags-contributes significantly to global warming. Greenhouse gases are the result of emissions caused by burning fossil fuels during the production of plastic and paper bags. The greenhouse effect is caused when infrared radiations from the earth’s surface are prevented from escaping into the outer space. The consequence is global warming. A very important way to reduce the use of plastic bags is through the use of reusable grocery bags and reusable shopping bags. It is through the use of these reusable grocery bags that we are able to reduce the negative effects that paper and plastic bags have on the environment. Reusable shopping bags eliminates the need for many consumers to carry their purchased items in paper or plastic bags. When consumers show that they no longer want to use paper and plastic bags, there will be less of a demand for these bag manufacturers to produce so many of them. It is through the production of these bags that the environment is affected. When these manufacturers see the lowered demand for them because consumers are using reusable shopping bags and reusable grocery bags, they will lower how many they put into production.

Paper bags have the highest global warming impact per bag compared to other types of bags. According to the US EPA, 70% more global warming gasses are emitted making a paper bag than a plastic bag, and 50 times more water pollution. They also use 4 times more raw materials, and consume 3.5 times more energy. They also contribute to global warming by destroying trees. In 1999, the American Forest and Paper Association reported that Americans used 10 billion paper shopping bags, consuming 14 million trees. The use of reusable shopping bags and reusable grocery bags not only eliminates the need for paper and plastic bags, but they will lower the number of bags being produced. It is evident that the production of these bags has a major effect on the environment and people need to make a strong effort in their consumption of these paper and plastic bags.

Reusable Grocery Bags and Reusable shopping bags are a great way to do your part in the prevention of global warming. Global warming, or climate change, shows no signs of slowing down. Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The rate of warming is increasing. When you go shopping at your nearest retail outlet, make sure to bring your reusable shopping bags. The next time you go to the supermarket, you should bring your reusable grocery bags. The 20th century’s last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies. And the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850. The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average, according to the multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment report compiled between 2000 and 2004. Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss. Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting-for example, Montana’s Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later. Reusable grocery bags are a great way to prevent the countless plastic bags from being manufactured, and it is partly through the production of these plastic bags that global warming is happening. Reusable Grocery Bags and reusable shopping bags are a simple and effective way people can do their part in conserving the environment. Reusable grocery bags can be purchased and used at all supermarkets, while reusable shopping bags are great for any occasion when you are out shopping. Do your part in caring about the environment and saving the planet through the use of reusable shopping bags and reusable grocery bags.

Energy Efficient Home Improvements

There’s nothing like the shock of the first big heating bill of the winter to make a homeowner start considering some energy efficient home improvement projects. If you’re paying for the heat in your house, you want it to stay in your house. But older houses are often like sieves sending heat right out the windows and doors. Every one of those little gaps winds up costing you money.

Fortunately, there’s never been a better time to start making your old, drafty house into an energy efficient home. Prices on Energy Star rated materials such as replacement windows and low flow shower heads are at an all time low. On top of that, many state and local governments are offering incentive refunds on everything from energy efficient refrigerators to new insulation.

Conducting an energy use audit is the first step in making your house more energy efficient.

If you’ve got the funds, there are plenty of independent contractors who will, for a price, evaluate your home and write a report with recommended fixes.

A lower tech audit can be conducted by simply examining your doors and window on a cold night. Can you feel cold air coming in? If cold air is coming in, hot air, and money, is probably flowing out the other way.

Home appliances are one area that is frequently overlooked in an energy audit. Older refrigerators, washers, and televisions can account for more of your energy bill than you might think. In most states, you can check out a meter from your local library that will tell you how much energy your appliances are using each year.

Windows are probably the biggest ticket item you’ll run into when making your home more energy efficient. But windows also offer one of the best places to start saving money as well. Modern double pane windows from companies like amsco windows keep heat in during the winter, they deflect the warming rays of the sun during the summer months. This allows for more efficient use of air conditioning as well. And in most municipalities, rebates of up to 00 are available on energy efficient window purchases.

Upgrading your home to be more energy efficient will save you a great deal of money and to the overall value of your home. The fact is that in most cases, new, efficient appliances will pay for themselves in less time than you might think.

Energy efficient windows

The government is pushing every home and business owner to be more energy efficient. Upgrading old buildings and replacing inefficient features with high-quality products has many advantages, and not just for the authorities. Replacing your old window with new ones will keep the temperature inside your home more constant, and save you lots of money on utility bills.

Before hiring a windows specialist or contractor, take a few minutes to sit down and think about the following issues.

1. What type of windows should i consider for my home? Picture, awning, rotating or hopper windows? Single or double pane?

2. How long will these new windows last before they will need to be replaced?

3. What type of warranty is offered on window replacement?

4.

How energy efficient are these windows?

5. Do the windows you are interested in have multiple layers of soft coating?

6. Are these windows ‘Energy Star’ approved? Do they qualify for tax credit?

7. How many windows need to be replaced in my home?

8. Is the space between the panes filled with an insulating gas component?

9. What kind of locking mechanisms do these windows have? Are they secure enough to keep your family safe?

10. Is the window manufacturer trustworthy?

11. Are the window installers knowledgeable and able to provide references?

12. Will the work be finished in a timely manner?

If you need the job done in a specific time frame, and your C windows installer is aware of this, the job should be finished as agreed upon.

Once you have answered all your questions to your satisfaction, you should be ready to start your window replacement project. Good luck!

What is Solar Energy?

Solar energy is the energy provided by the sun through his radiation and that is disseminated, directly or so diffuse, in the atmosphere.

On Earth, home of humankind and the third planet in the solar system, it is the source of water and wind. The plant on which the animal kingdom, also uses the energy transforming it into chemical energy through photosynthesis. With the exception of nuclear energy, geothermal energy and tidal energy (from the movement of water created by the tide), It is the source of all energy on Earth.

Through various processes, solar power can be transformed into another useful form of energy for human activity in heat into electrical energy or biomass. Hence the term “solar energy” is often used to describe electricity or heat produced from it.

Techniques to directly capture a part of this energy are available and are being improved continuously.

One can distinguish three types of energies:

* Solar photovoltaic: This refers to electricity produced by converting a portion of solar radiation with a photocell (which is an electronic component, exposed to light (photons), generates a voltage). Several cells are connected in a solar photovoltaic module. And then, more modules are grouped to form a solar system for individual use or a solar photovoltaic power plant, which supplies an electrical distribution network. The term “photovoltaic” refers to the physical phenomenon – the photovoltaic effect – or the related technology.

* Solar thermal is to use heat from solar radiation. It comes in different forms: thermodynamic solar power, hot water and heating, cooling, solar cookers and dryers. Solar energy is a thermodynamic technique that uses solar energy to generate electricity.

* Passive Solar Power: The oldest use of solar power is to benefit the direct input of solar radiation and is called passive solar Power.

For a building that benefits from good sunlight, it must take into account the solar energy in the architectural design: double facades, orientation towards the south and glass surfaces, among others. The thermal insulation plays an important role to optimize the proportion of the available passive solar heating and lighting. A house or a building which will have passive solar energy contributing to a significant saving energy. Batteries, fans, lamps garden pumps. Today, almost everything can run on solar energy. Since many people carry in their bag a GPS equipped with a solar charger and solar photovoltaic panels on some roofs.

Essential for life on Earth, the sun can offer many other services: heating our homes, powering the most remote, and so on.

Energy Efficient Custom Homes

Going green is an advocate that is rapidly becoming popular nowadays. Not only because this is becoming more practical but also because there is an impending need for us to do so. Energy consumption is one of the contributing factors that affect our environment. And one way of adhering to going green efforts is to reduce energy consumption to preserve the natural resources used to produce energy.

It is an American dream to have a house you can call as your own. And a wonderful innovation has just happened to building your dream house in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. Now you can have a house built for energy efficiency. In addition, an energy efficient home rating program was developed by a US government based organization dedicated to helping consumers save money and protect the environment by educating consumers about energy efficient products and practices.

An energy efficient home rating system measures the overall efficiency of a home and rank it based on how well it falls within the energy guidelines.

Energy efficient building practices are now being recognized by custom home builders too as a way of helping save the planet and at the same time a way to provide a cost effective housing to the people. Cost effective and non-obtrusive approach to building energy efficient, sustainable homes are now available where home shoppers are able to make an educated decision regarding the return of their energy efficient investment based on an initial study of the options available to them.

The cost or return model of the home upfront is created during the design and budget stage. A zero energy green standard house is a practical solution for home energy saving efforts.

In fact, homeowners can also now have documentation of their home energy savings with testing and government based certificates. This way the homeowners in the Dallas Forth Worth area with the house that has higher energy efficiency not only save money on their energy bill, but also give their home a higher value.

Advantages of Solar Heating Panels

If you are looking for a way to lessen your carbon footprint, you should consider installing solar heating panels. These solar panels collect heat from the sun and can be used to provide your home with hot water or heat your home. Solar heating panels generally need to be installed on the southern-facing portion of your roof. This is because southern-facing roofs generally receive more sunlight.

There are three different types of solar heating panels – low temperature, medium temperature and high temperature. Low temperature heating panels are flat plates generally used to heat swimming pools. Medium temperature heating panels are also flat plates but more extensively used in commercial and residential areas. High temperature heating panels normally use lenses or mirrors.

While the savings in the long run will make installing solar heating panels worth it, there is a large upfront cost.

To help with this, many states offer tax exemptions, tax credits, or tax deductions for homes with solar energy systems. Before you install a solar heating system, make sure to research these tax advantages as this can help mitigate the upfront cost.

There are now do-it-yourself kits available on the internet for people who want to install solar water heating systems in their homes or businesses. Solar water heating system plans are available in the internet. However, hiring a professional can be less costly in the long run. Each house or business establishment has its own unique characteristics. Buying generic do-it-yourself kits may not work as well compared to hiring a professional.

Professionals know the best position to install the solar heating panels and can calculate how many your home needs based on square footage and other factors. This will lead to a more efficient system which will save you money over time.

Finding the right professional heating & air conditioning contractor to install your solar heating system can be difficult. Start by searching the internet for contractors near you. Most contractors will have a website. Look to see if they have a good explanation of green building techniques. If they do, it signifies that green building techniques are important to them and they encourage their customers to use them. You should also look to see if they have 24/7 emergency service. Having this emergency service signifies that customer service is important to them. After you have found some potential contractors, search review sites online to see if their other customers are satisfied with their work. Read the reviews instead of just looking at the star rating; that way you can see if any of the reviews are specifically related to solar heating panel installation.

Once you have found reputable contractors, you should get quotes from at least three different contractors and compare them. Generally these quotes are free, but you should ask while making the appointment to be sure. Once you have received the quotes, weigh the different prices against the perceived quality of the technician. If you felt that the technician who gave you the highest quote was indeed the best, you should go with them because it will probably save you money on repairs and such in the long run.
