Amidst all the news and events that got people busy, it’s good to hear some positive news once in while. With the current depressing conditions all over the world, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg informed the public that that the police department has turned into a green police? Yes, the NYPD is going green. Adding 40 hybrid patrol cars to the force, the police aims to both make changes within the system and to their environment. Hence, the term green police.

Green cars offer double the mileage than before
As it was announced by the Office of the Mayor, there are a total of 18 marked and 22 unmarked Nissan Altimas to be deployed in all five burroughs. The new hybrid police cars can maximize fuel much better than police cars before. Although the number of hybrid cars does not make that much of a difference as the NYPD has about 8,800 police cars, this is the first step. The police is slowly starting its way to becoming the green police.
If you do not clearly know about this kind of car (hybrid car), let me explain a little about it. This type of car is a very good choice if we care about our environment. It only use a few fuels, and produce a light emission.
Two kind of engine available in hybrid car, they are gasoline-powered engine and electric motor. Both engines work in a different way. Gasoline-powered engine (standard engine in every car) used when the car run in a high speed, or when when we need our car to accelerate. Gasoline-powered engine also make the car still economical. Another engine (electric motor) is a real “green-machine” thing in this type of car.
Despite the small number of hybrid cars, this will serve as a good example for people, other institutions and organizations to follow.
