If you are a big advocate for green life, you must have been excited about the innovation of the solar roof shingles. Compared to the conventional asphalt shingles, this new solar system can deliver obvious advantages and benefits to those green-oriented families.

Visual Appeal

This new type of shingles resemble the traditional asphalt shingles in size and finish, but are covered with thin film solar cells that are responsible for converting sunlight into electricity. Despite their thinness, these solar cells are able to produce the same amount of solar energy as that produced by the large array of solar panels. In fact, the solar shingle systems were exactly designed to substitute for the visually intrusive solar panel arrays.

Higher Acceptance

In some areas, the homeowner associations do not allow installation of solar panel arrays either on your roof or backyard. But, don’t you think that the solar shingles will be more acceptable to them, as your roof will not look much different from their own roofs?

More Flexibility

There are two types of solar shingle systems available. The off-grid system is a self-contained one, while the on-grid one is attached to the public utility. The working mechanism behind the shingle solar system is the same as the old (though still being widely used at the moment) solar panel arrays – it collect sunlight and convert it into electricity through photovoltaic cells. The only difference is that the shingle systems use materials that are much smaller in size, but, with the newest solar technology, they are able to produce just the same amount of solar energy.

Easy Replacement

This new shingle system does not just look like the traditional asphalt shingles, it can also be replaced easily just as the asphalt shingles. Having said that, there is no need to worry about maintenance or replacement as yet. Almost all shingle systems in the market will last for at least 20 years, and they are able to sustain even the harsh weather like storm and high winds.

Right now, the solar roof shingles are still fair new in the market, and it is for your best interest that you purchase from reputable manufacturers that also provide professional installation. You can always do your research on the internet, find the best supplier, get the high-tech shingles properly installed, and start to experience the change to your life!

The same photovoltaic systems that convert solar energy into electricity are becoming available as portable systems that you can carry wherever you want. The fixed solar systems have already dramatically transformed the whole idea of power generation, compared to the conventional fossil fuel generators. We now have access to systems that are silent, ecologically friendly, free from pollution and also free from emission gases. Being able to take them wherever you want means we are entering into an era of liberty and freedom that is without precedent.

The possibilities for using portable solar system are limited only by our imagination. Whether it is a matter of a trip to the Amazon forest or an expedition to the desert, portable power systems bring creature comforts within reach at the end of each day. There is no longer any need to remain within connecting distance of the national electrical grid.

Convenience for the user as well as protection of the environment are both key characteristics of portable solar systems. They do not require fuel, pollute the air, need maintenance or make any noise. Large or small, they can be carried or transported using appropriate vehicles.

Portable solar power with storage batteries can therefore provide for all electrical requirements whether users are camping out in African game reserves or providing help to distant third world countries. Base camps can therefore be provided with all modern conveniences and information technology.

Portable solar power systems include all the components required for efficient power generation. Contemporary design and technology means that the panels, wiring, charge controllers and battery inverters are all packed into these compact units. At any time when the sun is shining, they can be switched on to generate instantly usable 120 volt A.C. power from solar radiation. With their battery backup systems, portable photovoltaic solar power systems have many benefits including of course electrical power in remote areas where there is no connection to the electrical grid.

Three major components for portable solar power systems mean that the design is both simple and effective. The photovoltaic panels generate electricity from the sun, and then run this through a charge controller into battery storage, to finally have the inverter use the power from the batteries to provide one hundred and twenty volts A.C. current in standard sign waveform whenever required. The batteries also store any surplus current that is produced so this can be used later for example when the sun is not shining or at night.

With advances in design technology, smaller or compact portable generators for solar power can be used in locations as diverse as recreational vehicles or boats, as well as on construction sites where electrical grid power has not yet been provided. They can be carried in small trucks or cars to remote locations, to farms or ranches where they can be used to power external equipment or internal appliances.

Protons from sunlight are absorbed by the solar cells in portable solar generators just as they are in fixed solar generators. This provides the energy to generate power. Thus apart from the fact that fixed power generators cannot be moved and portable power generators can accompany the user wherever they want to go, in terms of solar power generation the principle is identical.

The day may well come when traditional diesel or propane power generators are no longer used and the world at large will turn to portable solar power generators for both business and home use. The current trend shows that conventional, polluting power generators will soon be overtaken by cleaner, more efficient systems such as solar power generators.

Portable power systems have a number of important advantages. To make best use of these requires simply knowledge of how to set up the system, and where to acquire the parts inexpensively. In addition, it is possible to obtain batteries for free, as well as information for how to wire the system and which safety precautions must be observed. This knowledge can allow you to install your solar power system effectively and quickly so as to reap the benefits of clean, renewable and inexpensive power generation.

Many people today believe in the importance of going green. As a matter of fact, there are cars right now that are environment friendly. There are also a lot of campaigns against air pollution, burning garbage, etc. When it comes to electricity production, there is also a way to go green. By depending on homemade solar energy to bring electricity to your homes, you will be able to have a more harmonious relationship with mother earth.

Using electricity provided by solar power has so many benefits. Aside from promoting eco-friendliness, it also aids people in saving on electricity charges. Solar power is also renewable which can bring about energy conservation, becoming one way of ensuring that fossil fuels do not immediately run out. Solar power produces both heat and electricity which are two very important elements that we need to survive. By constructing and using the so called solar panels, we can gain solar power, which means that we can get power into our homes in a more efficient way.

Perhaps the most interesting benefit of solar powered electricity is the fact that users get to provide their own energy, thus decreasing the need to rely on utility companies. Bear in mind that almost every year, electricity rates go higher, forcing us to shell out more money every month. With solar panels, however, rising electricity charges may not have a bigger effect on people.

Some people may have second thoughts about using solar powered systems because of the cost to purchase and to have it set up. Having solar panels installed in your home may sometimes reach the cost of thousands of dollars. However, when you think about the benefits and the total percentage of savings you get yearly, having a solar powered system can be better than paying utility companies just to get electricity.

Nowadays, there are also solar panel kits available that are not that heavy on the pocket. To save on money, you may also choose to install the system yourself, especially because the kits normally come with instruction manuals that you can just follow in order to successfully install a solar powered system by yourself. By installing a DIY kit, you may not need to hire professional installers, thus, you get to save money. There are also some government programs in a number of countries that provide rebates and sometimes tax credits to people who use solar panels which also means more savings.

The demand for homemade solar energy is little by little rising because of how advantageous it is. A lot of manufacturers are now able to offer less costly solar power systems. There are also different types of solar panels that can give you the choice of which solar panel is best for your home. If you want guaranteed efficiency and savings, find out first the total amount of power you need, the amount of sunlight you get in your place, etc before purchasing solar panel kits. Look for systems that are easy to afford, easy to buy, and proven effective.

When you think of solar powered homes you think of a home totally powered by state of the art expensive solar panels but that need not be the case. Solar power is now becoming less expensive these days and is more popular than ever.

Solar electric systems are also known as photovoltaic or PV systems and are reliable and pollution-free. They take their power from a free and renewable source of energy that has been with us since the beginning of time – The Sun. Home solar power solutions are becoming more and more affordable over time for providing solar home power. Dont worry because you don’t have to fork out hundreds of dollars to get started.

How Does It Work?

Well solar home energy is provided by solar panels also known as Photovoltaic (PV) solar cells. They create electricity directly from the sun and will function any time the sun is shining. Considerably more electricity is generated when the sunlight is stronger. In simple terms, the sun has to strike the PV modules at a perpendicular angle to generate the electricity. Electrons are released by the interaction of sunlight with semiconductor materials in PV cells and the electrons are captured in an electric current. The PV panels are connected to an inverter unit in your property that converts the resulting the direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC). The inverter is connected to and powers your appliances. It’s also connected to a meter which monitors electricity consumption. Ok that’s enough techie stuff!

PV systems allow you to produce electricity for a solar energy home without noise or air pollution-from a clean, renewable resource and it is a continuous energy source that never depletes. How cool is that?

Things to consider before purchasing

Prior to buying a PV system for a solar power home there are at least two considerations that you need to make.

1. Solar power will be intermittent because electricity is only produced when the sun is shining. This wont be too much of a problem if you are connected to the Electricity Grid as any additional electricity power requirement will automatically be delivered to you. If you aren’t then you can purchase batteries to make up the shortfall but these can be expensive.

2. It can require an initial large investment. It’s basically like paying for years of electricity upfront. Having said that you don’t have to you DO NOT need to invest $1,000′s in costly solar panels or windmills to transform your home into an energy producing “green home” You can just buy the components you need and make your own panels and use them to power a few electrical appliances. That way you can gradually build up to the level of alternative power provision that you want. You can even build them yourself with a few common materials and save yourself money.

Financing your PV system

If you want to use home solar panels extensively for moreorless total home solar power, probably the best way to finance it is through a mortgage loan. Mortgage financing options include your primary mortgage; a second mortgage, or a home-equity loan that is secured by your property. There are two advantages to mortgage financing.

1. Mortgage financing usually provides longer terms and lower interest rates than other loans, such as conventional bank loans.

2. The interest paid on a mortgage loan is generally deductible on your federal taxes (subject to certain conditions ). If you buy the PV system for solar power for homes at the same time that you buy it , you can consider including it in the cost.

Adding the cost of the PV system to your mortgage loan is likely to be relatively simple. It is also one way to avoid additional loan application forms and fees.

Why would you want to use solar power?

There are many reasons why you might want to convert to use PV units for solar power. – To help preserve the Earth’s finite fossil-fuel resources and reduce air pollution.

1. The desire to make ones property more energy efficient.

2. The security and satisfaction of reducing the amount of electricity you buy from the utility company

3. Getting one over the profitable utility companies because 4. By law the utility company has to pay you back for any excessive electricity power that you generate and don’t use at the current market price. That’s great for us consumers.

Whatever your reason, solar energy is widely thought to be the energy source of choice for the future.

Currently, most solar technologies are delivered via silicon crystals, whose highly refined nature and relative scarcity make them expensive components in the solar process. This makes the end-product equally expensive, and cost is one of the factors limiting the use of solar panels to generate energy.

Plastic, or polymer, solar cells are relative newcomers to solar technology, but their potential advantages – lower cost, lighter weight and greater flexibility – promise to sweep the solar industry, once sourcing and manufacturing are refined.

Polymers are plastic-type substances, usually made from petroleum. Organic plastics, typically represented by such products as amber and shellac (or tree sap), may soon be available from cellulose, or food products like corn, making organic polymer solar technology not only inexpensive but environmentally friendly; i.e., disposable.

Konarka Technologies, Inc., recently announced that their flagship product, Power Plastic®, was rated at 6 percent efficiency. This may not seem like much, but solar panels currently in use rarely boast more than 12- to 14-percent efficiency, and polymer cell technology is still in its infancy.

For Konarka to achieve 6 percent with its flexible organic based photovoltaic (PV) solar is truly an important milestone, as co-developer Dr. Alan Heeger of the University of California (Santa Barbara) notes.

“This progress gives us confidence that we are on a technology pathway toward the vision of high efficiency, low cost ‘plastic’ solar cells.”

Heeger, one of the co-founders of Konarka, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2000. He and his colleagues at UCSB are currently focused on issues related to the fundamental electronic structure of polymer solar cells, and hopes in the near future to bump that efficiency rating to a full 10 percent, which would make it highly competitive with silicon-based solar.

Another discovery, from the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, promises to improve polymer solar material by substituting a silicon atom (or a crystalline) for a carbon atom in the backbone of the polymer. Eventually, says UCLA researcher and co-author Hsiang-Yu Chen, solar cells may be as thin as paper, attachable to any surface, and colored to match different applications.

Imagine hanging a solar panel alongside your deck or patio that looks like a Van Gogh!
