Generating Wind Energy

Just like solar energy, wind energy is another environment-friendly and economical energy source. With almost 40% of wind energy sources of Europe in the United Kingdom, there is immense potential to use wind energy as a source of energy.

Generating power through wind is not only efficient but also renewable like solar energy. The only downside is that a tall, moderately sized generator can be a sore eye and spoil the vi Read more…

11,615 MW of installed wind power

“Installed wind power in Spain on 1 January 2007 is 11,615.07 MW, according to the Center of the Wind Wind Energy Association (ESA), with data collected by ESA and the Association of Renewable Energy Producers (APPA) . The 1587.16 MW installed during 2006 represent an annual growth of 15.8%, a percentage similar to that of 2005. The figures eloquently warned that this rate of growth for the last 2 years did not meet the goals adopted by the Government in the Renewable Energy Plan (PER).

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is defined as that which is obtained from natural sources continuously inexhaustible on a human scale. They are a real clean alternative to conventional energy with minimal environmental impact.

We could divide them into 6 major groups:

  • Solar energy (photovoltaic, thermal, thermoelectric)
  • Wind Energy
  • Hydraulic Power
  • Energy of the Sea (marine, undimotrz, maremotérmica)
  • Geothermal Energy
  • Biomass Energy (Residual Biomass, Biofuels, energy crops, municipal solid waste)

RenovablesThe latter has its own peculiarities as it produces CO2 emissions. However, these emissions can be considered carbon neutral since it is already found in the natural cycle of life, and not released into the bargain as with the exploitation of fossil fuels.

We will explore in depth each.

As a contrast, are non-renewable energy, those that are limited and once irrestituibles fully exploited. Curiously also note that it is the worst polluters.

  • Coal
  • Natural Gas
  • Nuclear Energy

Wind vs Solar Energy

Wind Energy all know … We have become accustomed to seeing huge wind turbines on the hills bordering Spanish motorways and expressways. A good example is the village of La Muela, Zaragoza, and the succession of sublime mills on both sides of the A-2.
